"MaeCile's first question to my wife and me was, 'What do you want to get out of your time here?' Our answer was to get more comfortable around horses with the ultimate goal of feeling adept enough to take a couple of horses out by ourselves. Our 3 days at Horseworks were exhilarating and exhausting. MaeCile had us working with several horses both in the round pen and on trail rides. We learned what it really meant to ride western. Fortified by her excellent banana pancakes we managed to take in enough of MaeCile’s knowledge to set off together on our last day across the open range. I have been playing cowboy most of my life, but it was Horseworks that made me feel like the real deal. Thanks! Ted & Beth"

What's Included

Your horsemanship will focus on important groundwork basics: approaching, catching, haltering, leading, establishing personal space, trust, & confidence with your horse, helping your horse accept you as their leader, showing you how to assume the leadership role.

You'll learn: safe practices around horses, as well as grooming, saddling, bridling, and some ways to assess a horse that is new to you.

Training: When you are around horses, you are either training or untraining.  You'll learn the basics of training, become more aware of how you are interacting with your horse, and learn to observe more closely and interpret how your horse is responding to you.

Horseback riding: Half-day and all-day events do NOT include a horseback activity.  Multiple-day events include a horseback activity.  Multiple-day events do NOT have to be on consecutive days; activities build on previous days and the multiple-day discount applies.

The horses: you'll meet horses that range from foals to 2- to 5-year olds with which we'll get hands-on, as well as seasoned trail horses who assist us in training the youngsters and take us on rides.

The price per person includes adorable rustic cabin accommodations, horsemanship (and veterinary activities for pre-vet students), meals, and 24/7 access to the Lodge with showers, laundry, kitchen, dining facilities, and a log-furnished Great Room to warm up by a wood stove on cool fall or winter days.  Airport pick-up and drop-off at the beginning and end of your stay are included, if needed.  Food for hearty home-cooked meals is provided by HorseWorks Wyoming/WEC.  Everyone is welcome to pitch in to prepare meals that satisfy people's dietary preferences.

Considering horse ownership?  You  may also schedule an event to explore the ins and outs of horse ownership, horse care, and even determine if we have a horse long-term partner that matches your riding ability and goals.

2024: June 2-July 13 & Sept 15-28

Three options for joining 2024 Summer & Fall Sessions:
Full Horsemanship Experience, Internship/Externship, and Observer.

When to come?

Late May-June are considered late springtime and early summer, a great time to experience the hands-on and training opportunities of a working horse ranch.  Weather may be warm and dry one day and snowy the next.  Sun or snow, we work with the horses, then hit the hot springs for a soak or sip hot chocolate by the wood stove!  It's fantastic!

Yellowstone National Park

may be entered in the spring through the north entrance, and in summer through the east and northeast entrances, as well.  Snow provides a unique opportunity to see a variety of wildlife that travels over the trails blazed through the snow by the bison.

May-June

Summer means longer days, warmer weather, and many off-ranch activities in the area that start June 1, including the Cody Nite Rodeo.  Weather permitting, we also pack into cowcamp to stay overnight, and enjoy campfire cooking, and storytelling before falling sleep in our teepees, or out under a canopy of stars.

September

In September, there is a hint of fall in the air with the changing colors of mountain trees, as well as the opportunity to pack into cowcamp.  Some summer activities, like the Cody Nite Rodeo, end Aug 31.

Exponentially expand your horse experience whenever your come!

Budget for Off-Ranch Activities (not included in pricing)

To round out your ranch experience, budget time and funds to thoroughly enjoy the off-ranch opportunities Wyoming has to offer! We recommend $400-$500 pocket money for off-ranch activities, depending on your length of stay.
We'll help you plan a trip to Yellowstone which, if costs are shared among participants is
approx $150-$200 for a rental car, fuel, and room or camping.

We'll make one trip to Cody for guests to pick up a rental car for off-ranch activities.

Soak in the hot springs in Thermopolis, and in the summer, go white water rafting, float the local rivers, and take a trip to Cody for the famous Cody Nite Rodeo and dinner.

Airport Transfer Included

Airport transfer, provided by local shuttle from Cody, WY to the ranch are included on the start date (Sunday) and end dates of your stay (Friday or Saturday, your choice), is included in the price.  Transportation between Cody and the ranch for arrivals or departures on other days incurs a fee per person.  Participants are responsible for their own transportation for off-ranch activities.
