Guest Ranch Vacations &
Gap Year Holidays
Multi-Week Ranch Vacations are intense.
Less than an hour from Cody, Wyoming, Guest Ranch Vacations give Gap Year and other vacationers an opportunity to really enjoy horses and riding regardless of your age, background or horseback riding experience. Guest ranch vacations may last one to three weeks between March and October and may be extended weekly. It is called a guest ranch vacation to distinguish it from a “Dude Ranch Vacation” and to emphasize our focus on horses and riding versus other amenities.
Extended Stay Discounts
The price of a Guest Ranch Vacation decreases with duration of stay to $250/week after four weeks. Weeks are cumulative over years, so many vacationers return year after year! There is no upper age limit, but participants must be over 18 or accompanied by an adult. No particular background or riding experience is necessary - we have horses to match riders’ levels. Additional discounts are available to participants who purchase horses to take home. Staying longer to sightsee in the West? Book a cabin for $50/night/person to use as your base of travel!
Typical Ranch Days
Typical ranch days may include long and short trail rides, wrangling the horses from pasture before the morning rides, rounding up cows and team penning in the arena. Try your horse at barrel racing. Stay overnight at cow camp and cook out around the campfire. Sleep under star-filled Wyoming night skies. Observe our work with foals and horses to see how our natural horsemanship training methods create the great horses you ride during your stay,
We work with you to schedule off-ranch activities to round out your special Wyoming experience. Enjoy the Cody Nite Rodeo, a soak at the hot springs, an overnight trip to Yellowstone National Park and other opportunities unique to Wyoming! Take it all in during your stay!
When to Come
March 11 thru May 18, the price is $900 for one week, $600/week for three weeks. May 20th through July 6 and September, three weeks is just $883/week, decreasing with longer stays. Prices for 2019 sessions increase on Jan 1, so book by Dec 31.
A complete list of dates, prices, testimonials and other useful information are on this website. The Vacation Application and Booking Form help us understand your expectations for joining us on the ranch and your riding ability so that we can match your with appropriate horses during your stay. Our guests bring their passion for horses and a sense of adventure! There are as many reasons to vacation at HorseWorks as there are riders!
People get out of vet school with no experience catching a horse or handling a horse. I deal with people who are disciples of clinicians and can make a horse mind at the end of a lead rope and respect them at a distance, but they can’t handle a horse up close.
This is exactly the type of experience we hope to offer students. Something outside of the usual ‘small animal practice’ is always welcome!
USA pre-vet students may arrange Externships through your university to get hands-on experience with large animals.
A number of USA pre-vet students join us each year for a break from the classroom! Some have received credit through their universities for hands-on experience with large animals. Enjoy all the fun activities on and off-ranch. Make new friends and build strong bonds along the way. In short, be prepared to have an adventure of a lifetime!
See schedules for session dates between March and October.
Guests should be 18 years of age or older and submit an Application and Booking Form explaining why you think HorseWorks' Ranch Vacation is right for you. This is not a test! Just a way of making sure that we are the right destination to help you enjoy your vacation!
