Dude Ranch Vacation?

HorseWorks – not a dude ranch vacation.

Think of a Vacation as a one-week Internship or apprenticeship.   Unlike a dude ranch vacation, stay from one to three weeks between March and October.  The price, depending on duration, is as little as $600/week in the spring and $833/week in the summer/fall (not dude ranch vacation prices) and decreases to $250/week after four weeks, so many Interns return over the years to become part of our ranch family!

We call it an Internship or apprenticeship rather than a “dude ranch vacation” to emphasize our focus on horsemanship, confidence building and taking your riding to the next level!  Whether here for a week, three weeks or three months, all Interns participate together in trail rides, horsemanship and training, and other on-ranch activities, enjoying the full-immersion, all-round working ranch opportunity of our Wyoming paradise.

Although not a dude ranch vacation, opportunities abound to experience local flavor before, during and after your Internship.   Arrive in Cody a few days early or stay the weekend after for a trip to Yellowstone National Park.  Between on-ranch activities, we’ll help you plan time to enjoy Cody shopping, dinner and the  Nite Rodeo, soak those saddle-sore muscles in the Hot Springs in Thermopolis, go white water rafter, float the river and other local activities!

Prices include airport transfer when you arrive Sunday and at the end of your stay, horses, tack and unlimited riding, cabin accommodations, 24/7 access to the Lodge, delicious meals and snacks, beautiful Wyoming scenery, and an optional overnight at cow camp under star-filled Wyoming skies! Create your dream vacation, not an endurance contest!  No experience is necessary as we have horses to match our riders and teach you what you need to know!

“I could not imagine how relaxed and beautiful this vacation would be!” – One-Week Intern

HIGHLIGHTS: During the week, take long and short horseback rides over scenic terrain that varies from sagebrush flats to grassy slopes with canyon views and no need for nose-to-tail riding! Enjoy plenty of opportunities to ride side-by-side visiting with new friends, or in calm solitude, quietly taking it all in! The variety of daily rides includes treks to the cow camp where homesteader cabins were built at the turn of the century, tracking the elusive herds of elk, spotting other wildlife, and rounding up a few cattle to try your hand at cutting and team penning!

Our emphasis is on safety (see helmet policy) and matching horses to appropriate riders. Some rides may be divided into two groups to ensure that all riders can go at the pace and distance within their comfort level. We invite riders to bond with the same horse for the week, or try out horses of various breeds and personalities. One-week Internships are a great opportunity to learn from every horse and improve your riding.

You might even find the perfect horse partner to take home.  Our horses have found homes from Florida to Maine on the East Coast and along the West Coast, as well as in England and Scotland. International riders may purchase horses and board with us year-round to ride upon returning to Wyoming for subsequent vacations.
